How long does CoolSeal last?

A two-coat application of CoolSeal can last twice as long as conventional sealcoats.

How does CoolSeal work?

CoolSeal is designed to reflect the sun’s energy to produce cooler surface temperatures through increased reflectivity.

Where and how is CoolSeal applied?

CoolSeal is applied to asphalt, the same way conventional black sealcoats are applied. It can be used to coat playgrounds, parks, parking lots, driveways, residential areas, schools, bike paths and other community areas.

What is a heat island?

Heat islands, also known as urban heat islands, are areas with significantly higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas.  According to the EPA, heat islands can affect communities by increasing summertime peak energy demand, air conditioning costs, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, heat-related illness, mortality, and water quality. The EPA states that cool pavements such as CoolSeal can help mitigate heat islands.

Why are two coats usually applied?

A two-coat application is used to ensure high-quality results. When two coats are applied, any cracks or gaps remaining from the first coat are filled in. The second coat also helps to increase the lifespan of the product and save money.

Is it safe to drive on a "white" road?

CoolSeal has been shown to meet skid safety requirements and dries to light grey matte finish, which does not cause a glare.

Is CoolSeal paint?

CoolSeal is not a paint. CoolSeal is a high-performance, water-based, asphalt emulsion sealcoat that achieves lower surface temperatures through increased solar reflectivity.

LEED Points

CoolSeal meets LEED and EPA requirements of 33% reflectivity. All CoolSeal projects are eligible for LEED points.
